Defence Hardened steel of various thicknesses, the front of the robot is protected by 8mm, the flat sides have two plates of 10mm, the sloped sides are four millimetres, the rear end protecting the motor is 6mm and all the remaining hardened steel is 4mm.

Drive System Drive is a two-wheel drive system on a five to one gear ratio. Wheels are 6 inches in diameter using two ampflow e30-400 motors giving a top speed of approximately 18mph.

Battery Two 6s 2.65ah batteries for drive, four 7s 5ah batteries wired to give 58.8V on the weapon.
Biggest Weakness The robot’s weapon system is completely untested and will be started for the first time in the arena

Apex is an overhead bar spinner, using an axial gap DC brushed motor to drive the bar through a pulley system. It uses a 2,000-amp capacity contractor to switch on the weapon motor, which in turn activates via a relay switch. The weapon is a 1,200-millimetre- long 1” thick hardened steel bar spinning at 1,750 revolutions per minute and using a motor at 58.8 volts. It has a top speed of 242 miles per hour. The total weight of the bar and the pulley is 37 kilograms with a separate pulley on the motor which weighs approximately 1.5 kilograms. The body of the robot has been designed to look menacing and has large, sharp spikes at the front and sides.

What makes Apex unique...

Since not being accepted into Robot Wars last year, Apex has been completely redesigned, with the only shared component being the speed controller. Both Chris and Sam used to be in Team Foxic and have now created their own team.
