Storm 2 has a range of interchangeable weapons including a spinning disk, an electric lifting arm and a forward firing flipper and self-righter. The team claim they can flip from ‘down to up in 0.3 seconds.’ The team run a live real-time telemetry system which shows the robot’s performance (similar approach is used in Formula One teams) allowing them to make real-time choices on what to do. They can then analyse the robot’s performance after a fight on a PC that remains in the pits. Storm 2 is one of the most expensive Robots in the competition, over the 17 years the team has been building it has cost in excess of £25,000 to date, and can pull a minibus loaded with school children – over four tonnes.
